When Mark “Spanky” Gutierrez first asked me about producing a Ukulele instructional video I said “yeah that would be awesome.” I have a musical background myself, playing bass for several bands over the years and I have definitely watched my share of instructional videos. I had a picture of what we would need and what it would look like almost immediately I thought all it would need is a great location and beautiful video. During our first pre-production phone call, however, Mark said “ok so I want it to be like a Mad Scientist theme…” I have to admit it took me by surprise and sent us back to the drawing board.
We improvised a sandbag for our boom stand with marks Ukulele case… it is also tied to a table:)
Annie at the controls of the “slider” cam…
If you look closely you can see three cameras plus audio. The massive amount of footage surprised us a bit. But it was worth it to capture all that Uke goodness:)
What we ended up with is, I think, one of the most unique music instructional videos ever… And we are already cooking up the next one… if you are at all interested in learning the Uke Mark is a master teacher. We are all just about to buy a uke and play along :)
Here is the promo for the video we produced…
